What Is a Consecration to Saint Joseph?

A Consecration is a spiritual act of entrusting yourself to the paternal care and intercession of Saint Joseph—Jesus’ earthly father and the faithful spouse of Mary.

By making a consecration, you:

  • Imitate Saint Joseph’s virtues: humility, obedience, faith, chastity, courage, and silence.

  • Entrust your family, vocation, and work to his protection.

  • Deepen your relationship with Jesus and Mary through Joseph’s example and intercession.

Why Consecrate Yourself to Saint Joseph?

Saint Joseph is:

  • Patron of the Universal Church

  • Protector of Families

  • Model of Fatherhood and Work

  • Terror of Demons

  • Faithful Guardian of the Redeemer

The world today is in need of faithful men and women rooted in virtue. Saint Joseph shows us how to serve God faithfully, love purely, and trust completely. By consecrating yourself to him, you place yourself under his spiritual fatherhood, asking him to lead you ever closer to Christ.

How to Make a Consecration

Step 1: Prepare Your Heart

Choose a period of prayer and reflection leading up to your date of consecration

Step 2: Follow a Guided Preparation

Use a resource for each day that includes:

  • A reading and reflection

  • Prayer and litany to Saint Joseph

  • Meditation on his virtues and titles

Step 3: Make the Act of Consecration

Pray the Consecration Prayer to Saint Joseph with intention and devotion—ideally during Mass or in a sacred space like the Shrine.

Prayer to Saint Joseph

Saint Joseph, you are the loving spouse of the Virgin Mary, the foster father of Jesus, the protector and provider of the Holy Family, all families, and God’s family, the Church. With complete confidence in your faithful care, we commend to your prayers the mission of this Shrine dedicated to you and the spiritual and material needs of those who come as pilgrims seeking your assistance.  Help all people discover and fulfill their vocation in life, defend the dignity of every person, and bring healing and hope to those suffering. May the dying come safely to their heavenly home embraced, as you were, by Mary and Jesus.  Amen.

Saint Joseph, pray for us!
